The Fire Dance

The people of Badiaand Hejaz practice a traditional war ritual that requires great courage, aptitude and training: it is “Ta’shir”, the art of dancing to the rhythm of “Zir” drums and jumping high before directing the weapon towards the ground and firing at where the feet once stood, without causing any injury, evidently. This tradition dates back to the Hejazi period and has become an integral part of celebrations and social events in the KSA, where shots resonate, smoke rises and sparks illuminate fields and towns.
